For many years, platforms such as Etsy offered artisans and independent makers a valuable place to present handmade creations to an international audience. In the beginning, these marketplaces were strongly connected to craftsmanship, originality and small creative businesses. But over time, the landscape has changed considerably.

A Collaboration Between Independent Artisans
Handmade Luxury Home is the collaboration between Marga van der Vet and Paula Kuitenbrouwer — two independent European makers with years of experience in handmade craftsmanship and successful Etsy shops. Marga had over 2o0 sales in only two years, Paula had over 250 sales as from 2011. This may not look much, but in fact it is considering personalized commissions take time.
We decided to combine our experience and creativity in an independent webshop where craftsmanship and authenticity remain central.
By working independently through our own webshop, Handmade Luxury Home can keep prices fairer and more transparent while still offering genuine handmade quality. We are not working (and paying fees) to keep a huge platform going and its investors happy); we are working because our inspiration is urging us to do so.
No Mass Production — Only Handmade Creations
Every item offered through Handmade Luxury Home is created by hand, in small quantities or as completely unique pieces. There is no factory production, anonymous supply chain or industrial manufacturing involved. Instead, we focus on authentic craftsmanship (we can't otherwise!) and artistic individuality. We care about sustainability: we are mothers and we worry about the world for the next generation. We aim for timeless design; classical products that are loved inside your home. Each object carries the character and personality of the maker behind it.
Handmade in Europe
Although we have lived and traveled abroad, we are happy and proud Europeans. All creations are made exclusively within Europe, under fair and transparent conditions. Customers do not have to research whether our textile and decorative artworks are made ethically. They are!
We deliberately choose a small-scale and low-impact approach, working directly from our ateliers without unnecessary transport chains or commercial intermediaries. This allows us to maintain control over quality, materials and working conditions while supporting sustainable European craftsmanship.
Why Our Prices Can Remain Fair
Handmade Luxury Home is intentionally low-key and independent. We have no investors, no shareholders, and we have no time to focus on large advertisement campaigns. We have no warehouse, no costly Etsy fees.
We also work without expensive photo studios or professional marketing productions. Products are presented honestly and naturally, often photographed by ourselves, styled in simple settings or shown exactly as they are. We do have some help with backgrounds to offer you the best product photography possible. But through our product photos you come to see our homes, studios, our vintage mannequins and painter’s easels.
Payments are generally handled through direct bank transfer, helping reduce additional transaction costs and keeping prices as accessible as possible.
Because VAT is not applicable within our small-scale setup, customers within the European Union also benefit from more reasonable pricing compared to many commercial platforms.
From our Atelier to your Home
One of the greatest advantages of an independent webshop is direct contact. Customers communicate directly with the makers themselves — not with customer service departments, automated systems or anonymous resellers. No chatbots! We give you honest advice, custom possibilities, and genuine customer relationships
Every order is handled personally and with care.
The era in which platforms like Etsy fully represented handmade craftsmanship is gradually changing. Increasingly, customers are searching once again for authenticity, transparency and direct connection with independent makers. An independent webshop offers something large marketplaces can no longer easily provide:
