My Angel Wing Art Project started when I lived in Ireland. Inspired by the Irish coasts, mysterious Irish woodlands, and Ireland's birds, I set out to paint one large and decorative angel wing. Angels, however, had other plans with my portfolio and kept inspiring me with a multitude of ideas which resulted in many more angel's wings.
I studied bird anatomy and read ‘The Dictionary of Angels' by Gustav Davidson, to broaden my understanding of why and how angel wings have inspired artists throughout the history of art.
In total I painted nine wings of a woodland angel, a mother's hands angel, a breastfeeding angel, a beach combing angel, a butterfly protecting angel, a seraphim, archangel Michael's wing, a tulip angel, and a midwinter angel. A versatile set of angel's wings!
A professional printer turned my large paintings into small prayer cards, notebook cards, or well-wishing cards with a sweet texts and enough space for a personal note.
I have them on display in my work room and they always fill me with happiness. Why? Because there was a time 'we' saw angels everywhere. The world was full of angels. In prehistoric times, the world was full of nature, animal, and ancestral spirits, but with the birth of science and secularization, we saw fewer and fewer angels and spirits. It is well known that what you do not believe in, you fail to see.
However, despite that we consistently evicted angels out of our lives, we still believe in them. We still believe in prayer, god-winks (an event or personal experience, often identified as coincidence, so astonishing that it is seen as a sign of divine intervention) and angel healing when our symptoms disappear without a scientific explanation. But, we are very careful not to refer to angels for fear of being regarded as delusional. Yet, 500 years back in time, angels filled up our lives, dreams, debates, and churches. It has been such pleasure to retrieve them from the past in a playful and creative way.

How I use them?
I have used them to enclose with sympathy cards. For those wo love woodland walks, I enclosed the woodland angel wing card. I have used them on happier occasion, I have given the breastfeeding card to a mother who loved breastfeeding. The motherhand angel wing card I found very suitable for those who live away from their moms and miss their caring mothers. The shell-angel wing card I have used as a bookmark for Maja Lunde's The End of the Ocean, recommended by my sister Marga. Of course, the Tulip angel wing card serves as a gift card to replace sending flowers (for my friends abroad). My midwinter angel wing card has been send as a small Christmas card to many. Due to high postal costs, this smaller art card came in very handy: it conveys a lovely wish and stands out amount other seasonal cards.
