Positively Prepared
At Handmade Luxury Home, we love our homes. We care about our family. We like to guard our home -and ourselves- against calamities. We are -in fact- proper preppers. Although we actively gather some supplies, learn skills, and make plans to survive emergencies, we guard ourselves against dystopian thoughts, alarmist ideas, and anxiety.
We are sisters and daughters of a nurse, who was like Mary Poppins with her mysterious bag full supplies. In the middle of nowhere our mother knew how to treat wounds. She could turn up with a decent lunch anywhere on land and sea. She was always one step ahead in sensing her children's needs. It was impressive. And when we think of our mother, we silently thank her. We certainly hope we are like her.
We therefore prep! Not the obsessive, anxiety driven kind of prepping. Not the 'tomorrow the world as we known it will end' kind of fatalism. Not the hoarding kind of way. On the contrary, we joyfully prep. We take tiny steps.
Come along with us on our journey to have that 'Ta-da...I can deal with this' feeling when a blackout happens, or rainwater floods our kitchens. Or you have a bad case of flu and your daily dash to the supermarket is not doable.
Enjoy the post written by the Positive Prepper, which is a synonym for us: Marga van der Vet & Paula Kuitebnbrouwer, the two artisans and owners of Handmade Luxury Home.
Most prepping books are all about bushcraft—like you’re about to survive a zombie apocalypse in the wilderness with nothing but a pocketknife and a can-do attitude. Not us! We’re home-preppers, whether your home is a small urban flat or a countryside cottage. And no, we’re not ex-military or tech geniuses -we’re artisans, remember-.
Our goal? To share upbeat, anxiety-free prepping tips that won’t send you into a panic—or bankrupt you. You won’t find us advising you to build a nuclear bunker under your living room or stockpile military-grade gear. Instead, think common sense, handmade solutions, and budget-friendly ideas. Because let’s be honest: if the apocalypse comes, we’d rather be sipping tea by our handmade candlelight than nibbling yucky high proteins bars in a fallout shelter.
