At Handmade Luxury Home, we’re absolutely dotty about pets!
Marga van der Vet, our textile artist, shares her countryside home with a menagerie of horses, guinea pigs, cats, and dogs. Meanwhile, her sister, fine artist Paula Kuitenbrouwer, enjoys the buzz of university-town life with her own pair of adorable guinea pigs.
Together, Marga and Paula look back fondly on a childhood filled to the brim with guinea pigs of every colour, size, and personality. There were so many, in fact, that they eventually ran out of names—leading to the likes of Bubi I, Bubi II, Bubi III, and Pete I, Peter II (and many more besides!). Their daughters even swapped guinea pigs between them, because, let’s face it—these little chaps are the most lovable rodents on Earth! And somehow that love is genetically passed on.

These four piggies haven't all lived at the same time. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that the owner knows them all and now sees them happily together, nibbling an apple and carrot, and taking shelter inside their hut or staying close to their cosy wooden shelter.
Big, Healthy Hamsters
This piece is a work in progress, and while some commissions—especially in their final stages—remain private, you can imagine these plump, cheerful hamsters enjoying a feast of seeds. Picture them happily nibbling, their cheeks stuffed to the brim, as they scurry off to hide their treasures in cosy shelters. A delightful snapshot of hamster life!
